Dear friends, welcome to Peace Prayers. My name is Juli, the creator and host of the podcast, and I would love to be able to spend some time with you today. Our goal is to take a few moments and dive deep into God’s word before meditating on it ourselves. I’ll read a scripture from the Bible, and then we’ll pray it together over our lives. Invite a friend to listen in and let’s start our day with God’s peace. I am so excited to get started; thank you for joining me today.

You’re listening to Episode 101 and today’s verse is Amos 8:11

“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord,
“when I will send a famine through the land—
not a famine of food or a thirst for water,
but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.”

Let’s pray together.

Jesus, send Your revival. We need You, Holy Spirit. Come, come and bring times of refreshing and times of repentance and times of growth and times of hunger and thirst for righteousness.

God, we need this promise to come true today. We know You have spread Your love abroad in our hearts and we know that Your Spirit ever seeks us. We know that Your word is evident and Your creation a showcase of Your glory. But we still need more. We need more of a drawing to You. Soften our hearts and guide us safely to the harbor of Your truth.

We thank You that You care about more than just our bodies and You have a plan for our spirits. We are destined for eternity and pray it is eternity with You. What do we lack? May it be given to us. May we understand and seek it in You. We are so focused on the here and now and what is not within our grasping hands, but we need to know that our whole selves perish without You.

Father, we look at the world and it appears to have abandoned You, forgotten You, declared You do not exist. There is indeed a famine among us, a poverty in our spirits. We are panting, withering, shriveled, and we cannot even see it. We are so lost, perishing in the desert of humanism, declaring ourselves our own gods of the wasteland. And we are sick, rotting to our core.

But we know You have not turned away. We know You never stopped caring. We know You gave all for us. You made a way through that desert, a path to the Cross and beyond. We need to follow in it, but we are so low, so tired, so hungry. Feed us with the good.

Show us that we need You. Nurture a hunger and thirst within us for You. For time with You, for understanding of You, for doing Your work, for reading Your word, for being filled with Your Spirit. We need miracles, we need signs and wonders, we need explosive displays of Your power. Because we are dumb and we miss Your gentle voice, so deafened by the sound of our own selfishness and the cries of a broken world.

So let us not nurse our hunger and glutton ourselves with that which does not satisfy. Let us know we are hungry and rightly so, for You. Then feast us on the abundance of You, the ever-flowing river of life, and the fruit of Your Holy Spirit. We are rich indeed and in poverty no longer when we depend on such things. And let it burst forth from us, overflowing like a flood and roaring like a fire, unchecked, unstoppable, to ignite the whole world with Your glory.

Find the lost, redeem the captured, heal the broken, soften the hardened, bring truth to the deceived, and calm the raging anger of those who have turned away. Holy Spirit, come down among us, and overpower us with Your presence. We want the fullness of Your touch. And we know it will change the world.

I pray this in the infectious and redeeming name of Jesus. Amen.

That is the end of our collective prayer, but don’t forget that you can keep praying and meditating on this on your own. Thank you so much for joining me and I hope you have a peaceful rest of your day. I’d love to ask you a favor before we go and that is to please subscribe and leave a review for the podcast if you haven’t already. That is the best way to invite other people to join us in our prayers and it helps me more than you can know.
