Episode 105: Nahum 1:7
Dear friends, welcome to Peace Prayers. My name is Juli, the creator and host of the podcast, and I would love to be able to spend some time with you today. Our goal is to take a few moments and dive deep into God’s word before meditating on it ourselves. I’ll read a scripture from the Bible, and then we’ll pray it together over our lives. Invite a friend to listen in and let’s start our day with God’s peace. I am so excited to get started; thank you for joining me today.
You’re listening to Episode 105 and today’s verse is Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in Him.
Let’s pray together.
God, I wonder why it is so hard to trust in You. Is it because You are not good or failed or don’t care? No, that’s not it, but it feels that way sometimes. Perhaps it is because I feel I am the only one who cares about what happens to me and I’m trying to take care of everything myself, because if I don’t do it, who will? At least this way I have a measure of control and I can feel reassured that something is happening, even if it’s the wrong thing. I can feel more secure on where I stand.
But I know it’s wrong to distrust You, to want to fix everything myself instead of allowing You to work. Of assuming it’s my responsibility to take care of Your creation. Yes, I have designated tasks and stewardship delegation, but ultimately, it is up to You what happens in the universe. And sometimes I think it’s up to me. At least, that’s the way I act.
So, Jesus, teach me that You are good. Show me the refuge You are in times of trouble. Let me run to You when the world threatens to cave in on me. Let me huddle underneath the shadow of Your wings, my strong tower against my foe. And to ask for help. To be willing to let go. To relinquish my right to myself. I am bought by You, made by You, and a reflection of You. It is all about You, not me.
I know You care for me. I know that I make things so difficult by not trusting, by trying to do everything on my own and the way I think it works best. But instead of focusing on how I’m supposed to run my life, help me focus on Your love and compassion and the way You care for me and for others. Remind me of the goodness of You and how You intervene in my life on a daily basis. In tiny ways and big ways, tender mercies and grand gestures, and still, small voices. You are the refuge that I crave.
So please care for me as I trust in You. And when I don’t, forgive me, and help me trust in You fully. Let it be a step-by-step grace. Trust comes after hope and grace and enables truth. You are surely leading me on a good journey, but help me to rely on You for that. And when trouble comes, oh shield me, give me wisdom, protect me, and give me endurance and strength. You are the only One I can count on.
Teach me the nature of Your goodness. Help me to understand this is immutable and You will never change. Show me the wonders of Your mercy and the fullness of Your grace. Grant to me the abundance of Your generosity and the ferocity of Your protection. I lean against You as a wall, towering and thick, with a foundation of Your Son’s blood.
I pray this in the good and caring name of Jesus. Amen.
That is the end of our collective prayer, but don’t forget that you can keep praying and meditating on this on your own. Thank you so much for joining me and I hope you have a peaceful rest of your day. I’d love to ask you a favor before we go and that is to please subscribe and leave a review for the podcast if you haven’t already. That is the best way to invite other people to join us in our prayers and it helps me more than you can know.
