Episode 111: Romans 6:14
Dear friends, welcome to Peace Prayers. My name is Juli, the creator and host of the podcast, and I would love to be able to spend some time with you today. Our goal is to take a few moments and dive deep into God’s word before meditating on it ourselves. I’ll read a scripture from the Bible, and then we’ll pray it together over our lives. Invite a friend to listen in and let’s start our day with God’s peace. I am so excited to get started; thank you for joining me today.
You are listening to Episode 111 and today’s verse is Romans 6:14
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace.
Let’s pray together.
Father, I start with thanking You that sin’s penalty has forever been dealt with under the cross. That is the most important thing. No matter what, because of the sacrifice of Jesus, I never have to worry about paying my just ransom on my own. It is a one and done deal. All sin paid for, all eternity long. So thank You so much because this is Your great gift, nothing to do with anything I have ever done or ever will do.
But, LORD, I still struggle so much with the power of sin in my life. I want to keep control of my own life, but in so doing, I really relinquish power back to the devil and his designs for me. I know that You have given me Your Spirit, a divine cleansing on a daily basis and the master of sanctification, but I am not good at letting Him take over. I want to keep these old and familiar things that plague me. I am comfortable with the things I know, even if they are harmful and I hate them at the same time. You are bigger than this, I know. And every day You bring forth all Your power and might to fight on my behalf and to rid me of myself, showing me I belong to You. Thank You because I am so often ungrateful and do not heed His gentle and inexorable call.
Help me to remember that sin is no longer my master. I do not have to strive to win grace. It is a freely given mercy and I am the grateful recipient. When I open my eyes each day, may I remember that God is in control and that all I need to do is follow Him. He will lead me on my way and He will bring me safely home. He will provide for me and He will protect me. And when He says what His will is, obedience is not to earn favor, but to show love. Thank You I no longer have to look back at my old life. Because I died with Jesus in His sacrifice and I became a new person and now I live free, shackled only to freedom and to grace.
And I thank You, God, that someday even the presence of sin in my life will be conquered and I will no longer have to live with it under any circumstances. I will no longer be tempted and I will no longer fail. I will have victory in every sense of the word under Your banner. And I will live in harmony with You and with all. I struggle and strive on a daily basis, but my joy comes from that knowledge and it is a hearty, warming energy, keeping me on track with all I need to do. Let it never fade until the day comes when it is reality. And praise You for that day.
I pray God this knowledge is real to me, that the reality of it sinks deep into me even when I struggle with its understanding. May I live with it as truth every day, even when it is hard.
I pray this in the gracious and victorious name of Jesus. Amen.
That is the end of our collective prayer, but don’t forget that you can keep praying and meditating on this on your own. Thank you so much for joining me and I hope you have a peaceful rest of your day. I’d love to ask you a favor before we go and that is to please subscribe and leave a review for the podcast if you haven’t already. That is the best way to invite other people to join us in our prayers and it helps me more than you can know.
