Today’s verse is Isaiah 46 4

Even to your old age and gray hairs
    I am He, I am He who will sustain you.
I have made you and I will carry you;
    I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Let’s pray together.

Father God, I pray to be reminded today of Your character. You told Moses, I am. That is who You are. That is not just Your name, but that is Your essence. I don’t need to know anymore than that. I am is all that is necessary. It encompasses everything. I want to know that. I want to hold on to that. I want to be reassured of that whenever I am in doubt.

Because I do doubt, God. I so often look at my circumstances and the rising waves mounting against me. I am standing in a storm, soaked through, wind-tossed, buffeted and battered every which way. I don’t know where to look, but I can barely see as it is. I have nothing to hold on to. I will sink at any moment. I will be swept overboard into a sea of troubles. And that is all I know. But it is not all there is.

Because You are able, LORD, able to walk across the waters of my misfortunes and take arms against them. You are stable and strong and ready and present. You have proven Yourself able, against the natural and the supernatural woes that assail me. You can handle any trouble or trial or tribulation that I face. Your word and Your own presence in my life have proven that over and over again. Yet, I forget in the midst of my torment.

Father, my whole life, please sustain me. I have need of You from my birth to my death. Through every age and every situation, I require your aid. When I am old and have experienced so much, I will still need Your assistance. I literally can do nothing, not even breathe, without You. So show me, God, show me how You will do so.

Carry me as You carried me from the womb until now. Please don’t ever let go of me. I ask to cling to You desperately and feel comforted. I want to be safe and secure in Your arms. I want to know that despite the pain I am in, You care and You will take care of me. I might not see the answers I want or see them taking place immediately. But that doesn’t mean You haven’t answered my prayers. It doesn’t mean You aren’t providing for me. It doesn’t me You aren’t protecting me. Because You are. You promised to do so and your word never fails.

Rescue me from the dangers I face. Rescue me and carry me to safety. Help me to be grateful for Your aid and never fight Your pro-offered hand. I ask to know You, God. To know You so well that I am always following Your voice, happy to be in the company of my Shepherd. Jesus, You are the Shepherd, the Great I Am. And all I need to know about You, I can understand from the words and actions You gave us. So help me to know and to understand and to remember and to teach and to grow.

God, my Maker and Redeemer, I ask now that You carry me, sustain me, and rescue me. I have need of You, God. I bring all specific requests to Your ear now.

Thank You, Jesus, for never giving up on me. I pray this in Your all-powerful and ever-present name. Amen.
