Today’s verse is James 1:5

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

Let’s pray together.

LORD, sometimes I think I have a lot of wisdom. I’ve learned a lot, I’ve experienced a lot, You’ve given me a lot. But something always inevitably happens to remind me that I really know very little. I am humbled by a mistake or given an example of superior brilliance, or something catches me off guard. My knowledge can never compare to Your omniscience. And perhaps one day I will truly understand the difference between knowledge and wisdom.

But despite my confusion and my fumbling, You are generous. You encourage me to ask You for what I need. You have always delighted in giving wisdom. You have provided it to those who request to serve You with the wisdom You bestow. Indeed, this is a promise, a sincere gift, from our Creator. How abundant is the wealth You pour out! This wisdom is so precious, so rare, so valuable. And for You to give without measure, is extravagance indeed.

I thank You, Father, for this generosity. I thank You that You never fail to provide what I need. I thank You that You never withhold Your goodness from us. I thank You for Your promise and for Your faithfulness to fulfill it. I pray that I never take it for granted, but am humble and open to receiving. Thank You for Your wisdom. Thank You that You don’t withhold it when You know I don’t deserve it. The fact that You don’t find fault with me is evidence of the blood of Your Son and His mercy and grace alone. I would crumble and wither if You truly gave to me as I deserved. I am grateful for Your compassion and Your justice and Your sacrifice.

I do need wisdom, Jesus. I ask for it today. I have so many scenarios facing me without solutions. Nothing in my own strength, ability, understanding, or resources can help me solve the problems or face the dangers or weather the storms. I need You. And I need Your wisdom to make good choices, to have discernment, and to be good and kind and unselfish in the way that I take. Please, LORD, as You have promised, deliver to me.

Whatever I face, God, help me to face it with Your gift held close and fully developed. Let me not hold wisdom and refuse to use it. That would be foolishness indeed. No, let it flow from me, an extension of Your Spirit within me. And please help me as I face each day, each hour, each minute, each second. Choices and ways abound and You are my guide through the maze. Father, lead me in Your way everlasting.

And may I always have the grace that follows wisdom, bound to it by Your all-knowing hand. Renew it within me today.

I pray this in the ever-wise, the ever-giving, the ever-grace of Your name, Jesus. Amen.
