Episode 11: Malachi 2:5
Dear friends, welcome to Peace Prayers. My name is Juli, and I would love to be able to spend some time with you today. What I'd like to do is read a Scripture from the Bible about peace, and then pray it together over our lives. That way we can have a few minutes to start our day with God's peace. I'm so excited to get started with you. Thank you for joining me today.
Today's verse is Malachi 2:5.
My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him. This called for reverence, and he revered me and stood in awe of my name.
The context for this verse is that God is talking about the covenant that He made with Levi, Jacob's son, for his descendants to become the priesthood for Israel.
Let's pray together.
Father, I thank You that You had a plan in place long before any of us now living were born. Your story, Your covenant, through all of its iterations, LORD, has been living and growing since creation, since before creation, for You are eternal. LORD, I pray that that gives us hope today, that just as You had a plan for Levi and for his descendants, You have a plan for us. And, You know, Levi had a pretty rocky start, had a pretty rocky life, but You redeemed Him.
You redeemed all of his descendants. When I look at my life and some of the decisions I've made or the path that I have, I can kind of despair, but You've been very clear with Your promises to me, and there are promises that You have a life of peace laid out for me. And that doesn't mean that I won't struggle or that there won't be bumps along the way, but it means that You want me to be whole and You have that plan for me. And what I need to do is follow You, to revere You, to be in awe of who You are, and how You call me and how You lay out a path for me. My life gets to be laid out before You.
It's a free gift that You give and that's for all of us. It's not my path. It's not the path of Levi, but it's everyone's individual path. So when we're struggling with knowing where to go, or feeling like we don't have any kind of direction, Help us to hold onto this idea, LORD, that You actually have that already in place, and that no matter what we do to mess it up, we actually can't fully mess it up because You can redeem anything. And even though we have the free choice, the free will to make those kinds of wrong decisions, You already knew we were gonna make them, and that plan was already in place to redeem them.
It truly boggles my mind, this apparent paradox of how You are able to both plan and give and react. Jesus, help us to renew our covenant with You, a contract, an agreement. Let's pledge our lives to You, to the plans You have for us. And, Father, let's do it in awe of who You are and the fear of the LORD that comes from adoration and reverence, not from being scared out of our minds. You are beyond anything that we can comprehend, but You invite us in.
So help us to come boldly, yet humbly before You, and learn from You where we should go. And when we do that, LORD, we will become whole. So we shake off the shackles of our sin and we press forward into a covenant of grace. We have to actually take the steps. So I pray that we will do so, LORD, and that You will guide us, that You will give us life and peace.
And in response to that, LORD, Help us to honor You. Father, in our day to day, give us a specific step. Help us to Hear Your voice. Help us to honor You.
In Your name, I pray. Amen.
